A Money MOT is a quick financial health check — like an MOT for your car, but for your money. The concept is promoted by the Money and Pensions Service as a way to regularly check in on your financial wellbeing.
Our version focuses on the areas where most UK savers leave money on the table: emergency preparedness, debt management, savings optimisation, tax efficiency, and financial protection. Each answer contributes to your overall score and helps generate personalised actions you can take today.
Your Money MOT score is calculated across 5 categories, each contributing to your overall percentage out of 100:
Grades range from A+ (90–100) for excellent financial health to F (below 35) for areas needing urgent attention. Most people score between C and B on their first attempt.
Under 2 minutes. There are 15 multiple-choice questions across 5 categories. No calculations or account details needed — just pick the answer that best describes your situation.
No. The Money MOT is completely free and works without an account. However, creating a free StoozeMax account lets you track your progress over time and act on your personalised recommendations.
No personal financial data is stored. The assessment runs entirely in your browser. We only collect anonymous, aggregated data to improve the tool.
We recommend retaking your Money MOT every 3–6 months, or whenever your financial situation changes significantly (new job, new savings accounts, paid off debt, etc.). Your score should improve as you act on the recommendations.
